Nigerian government drives gunmen from oil installation, killing 12

Home (The Associated Press) - YENAGOA, Nigeria: Troops attacked and overran a Nigerian oil facility Thursday where gunmen were holding two dozen workers and soldiers hostage, leaving a dozen of the gunmen dead, the military said.

The attack came after midnight at the flowstation run by Italian energy giant Eni SpA in southern Nigeria, said Male Ochaguwuba, a military spokesman. He said 12 of the gunmen who seized the facility Sunday had been killed and that four troops were injured in fighting.

The military commander for the region said a number of troops were still unaccounted for after the occupation and attack, but he had no more details.
